Variants/Alternatives
While EP GC 203 is a popular choice, there are other variants in the EP GC series such as EP GC 201, EP GC 202, EP GC 204, and EP GC 205. All these materials have in common that they are based on glass cloth and epoxy, but in detail they might differ quite a lot. EP GC 201 is for mechanical and electrical purposes and also works in environments with higher humidity but not at elevated temperature. The temperature index of EP GC 201 material is not defined in the standard but is usually 130°C or class B. EP GC 202 is similar to EP GC 201 but has flame retardant properties. EP GC 204 is similar to EP GC 203, but also has flame retardants. EP GC 205 is similar to EP GC 203 but has a glass roving fabric as reinforcement which gives it superior mechanical properties, but at the cost that the machining of finer details is not possible.
Other Standards
In addition to EN 60893-3-2, EP GC 203 material may also comply with other standards such as the old and withdrawn but still commonly used DIN 7735 with grade 2372.4. Also, according to NEMA LI 1 there is a very famous grade called G-11 which is mostly congruent to the EP GC 203. These standards ensure that the material meets the necessary quality and safety criteria and therefore gives the customer the peace of mind needed for critical design materials.
